Major Mutants Marvel Has Yet to Cast for the MCU X-Men Reboot
At Disney’s D23 fan event, Marvel Studios revealed a major portion of the cast for its upcoming X-Men lineup, set to arrive in 2028. Sadie Sink will reprise her role as Jean Grey after appearing in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Kit Connor will play Scott Summers, Inde Navarrette steps in as Rogue, Maya Boyd will portray Storm, and Christopher Abbott takes on team founder Charles Xavier. Samara Weaving was also revealed as Emma Frost, though the character frequently fluctuates between hero and villain. Adam Driver joined the ensemble as Nathaniel Milbury, an established alias for Mr. Sinister. The roster is far from complete. During the panel, studio head Kevin Feige stated, “This is not all the cast.” Here are nine mutant characters who could still appear in the upcoming film.
Beast

Hank McCoy remains the most conspicuous absence from the current lineup. Alongside Cyclops and Jean Grey, Beast is a fundamental member of the original team. The initial 20th Century Fox film series delayed his arrival until the third movie, though Kelsey Grammer proved to be an ideal casting choice. The later prequel series cast Nicholas Hoult in X-Men: First Class, but changes to the character’s physical presence and visual design left room for improvement in a fresh adaptation.
Several names have surfaced in online rumors for Beast, including Peter Claffey, LaKeith Stanfield, Charles Melton, and Gaten Matarazzo. Claffey, Stanfield, and Melton are already in their 30s, whereas the confirmed mutants skew closer to their early twenties. Matarazzo brings youthful energy, though building the physical stature of Hank McCoy would be a major shift, and having two principal mutants played by Stranger Things alumni might feel repetitive.
Angel

Marvel Comics originally launched the team with five core members: Cyclops, Jean Grey, Beast, Iceman, and Angel. The inclusions of Storm and Rogue suggest the film takes inspiration from X-Men: The Animated Series and X-Men ‘97 rather than the earliest comic issues. Warren Worthington III could still be established as an early member of the school before new recruits arrived.
Gen V actor Asa Germann has circulated as a rumored contender for Angel. Introducing Warren early would also lay the groundwork for his eventual transformation by Apocalypse down the line.

Iceman
Bobby Drake shares a similar position to Angel. He could easily be introduced as one of Charles Xavier’s earliest students who helps welcome newer members. Because Iceman historically acts as one of the youngest members of the founding group, any casting choice would likely need to lean younger than the rest of the current ensemble. Very few credible rumors have surfaced for the role so far.

Gambit
Remy LeBeau is a staple of both 1990s comics and the animated adaptations. With Rogue confirmed for the film, introducing Gambit would allow the story to explore their long-standing romantic dynamic.

Online rumors have linked Timothée Chalamet to the Cajun mutant. While Chalamet has shown strong range, placing an actor of that profile into what would likely be an ensemble supporting role might pull focus away from the wider team dynamic.
Jubilee
Jubilee served as the audience’s point-of-view character in X-Men: The Animated Series and returned for X-Men ‘97. The 2028 film could easily feature her in a similar newcomer position. Because audiences will already know Jean Grey from Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the filmmakers might instead use Jean as the entry point into the mansion. Fan discussions frequently suggest 16-year-old Avatar: The Way of Water actor Trinity Jo-Li Bliss for the role.

Kitty Pryde
Before Jubilee filled the role of the team’s youngest recruit, Kitty Pryde occupied that spot during the 1980s comic run. Elliot Page portrayed Shadowcat across earlier Fox productions, but the character rarely received deep development. Many rumored choices for the role involve actors in their twenties or thirties, though casting a younger performer like American Housewife star Julia Butters would fit the classic dynamic far better.

Morph
Morph served mainly as a plot catalyst in the 1990s animated pilot before X-Men ‘97 revamped the shapeshifter into a non-binary core member with distinct abilities. While no major casting reports surround Morph, the character’s recent popularity in animation makes a live-action appearance possible, whether in the initial reboot or a later project.

Sebastian Shaw
The presence of Emma Frost and Mr. Sinister makes Sebastian Shaw a strong candidate to appear. In the comics, Shaw leads the Hellfire Club, a clandestine circle of influential figures seeking global control. Kevin Bacon previously played the energy-absorbing villain in X-Men: First Class. Early speculation linked Adam Driver to Shaw before Marvel Studios confirmed Driver as Nathaniel Milbury, leaving room for another actor to step into the role.

Magneto
Highlighting Mr. Sinister indicates that Marvel Studios may move away from making Erik Lehnsherr the primary antagonist right away. Charles Xavier and Magneto share a rich history that predates the team, meaning the Master of Magnetism could still appear in a reduced capacity or a post-credits scene. Most actor rumors suggest performers around 50 or older, but matching the age of the 40-year-old Christopher Abbott means Marvel may search for someone closer to Abbott’s generation.
