Call of the Elder Gods, the atmospheric successor to the 2020 puzzle-adventure Call of the Sea, has finally emerged from the shadows with a fresh trailer and a confirmed launch date. Set three decades after the events of the original, this sequel centers on a dual-protagonist journey aimed at unraveling a haunting new cosmic enigma.

While Norah Everhart, the heroine of the first game, relinquishes her role as the primary playable character, she remains a guiding force as the story’s narrator. This time, players step into the shoes of two new leads: Evangiline Drayton, an astute engineering student, and Harry Everhart, Norah’s husband and a seasoned archaeology professor. Upon realizing their supernatural visions are inextricably linked, the pair embarks on a cerebral quest to find answers.

Maintaining the first-person exploration roots of its predecessor, Call of the Elder Gods tasks players with scouring desolate landscapes—ranging from the sun-bleached Australian Desert to the frozen reaches of the Arctic—to find clues and bypass intricate obstacles. The experience allows for swapping between Evangiline and Harry, utilizing their unique skills to solve puzzles. Drawing heavy inspiration from the works of H.P. Lovecraft, the narrative specifically leans into the themes found in The Shadow Out of Time.

Call of the Elder Gods is scheduled to debut on May 12 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, and PC. Furthermore, the title will be available to subscribers on day one via Xbox Game Pass.
