List of PC Game Ports Created Without AI Emerges Online

Many new PC ports exist thanks to AI technology, though not everyone approves of this development approach.

Far from all games receive official PC releases, which leaves various enthusiasts to handle their porting. Recently, a variety of fan-made PC versions have been published online with increasing frequency. This trend connects to the advancement of AI technologies, as people can now use tools like Claude to attempt assembling a PC port without specialized knowledge.

However, some oppose the use of artificial intelligence in development, and these AI ports frequently suffer from various bugs. A solution has now emerged for anyone wanting a handcrafted PC port. A user known as FunkyLion decided to compile a list of projects built without the help of AI technologies:

In the early 2020s, we saw decompilation change everything. Being able to play classic games NATIVELY on PC with mods and without an FPS cap is a dream come true! Thanks to dozens of talented people, many classic games have been decompiled and ported to PC so anyone who wants to can play them.

But now, FunkyLion explains, artificial intelligence has taken over everything:

People with minimal programming experience (or none at all) are porting games without testing them, resulting in a wave of buggy AI ports that simply do not work. And the saddest part is that they overshadow the quality decompilation and recompilation work done by real people.

As a result, FunkyLion assembled a list of several dozen projects. Some are already finished, while others remain playable or sit in an alpha state, including:

  • Super Mario 64
  • The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask
  • Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
  • The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
  • Sonic Unleashed
  • The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
  • Star Fox 64
  • Perfect Dark
