8 New TV Shows to Watch This Weekend on Netflix, HBO, and Disney
Weekend watch options include major movie releases such as Tom Cruise in Digger and Robert Pattinson in Primetime. Viewers can also check out Avengers Endgame: Encore, which adds four minutes of extra footage and key scenes leading into Avengers: Doomsday this December.
For television viewers staying in, Zoe Kazan returns with her adaptation of East of Eden, starring Florence Pugh, Christopher Abbott, and Mike Faist. Kazan shares a family connection to the material since her grandfather, Elia Kazan, directed the 1955 film adaptation starring James Dean.
HBO presents the new legal anthology drama War, starring Dominic West and Sienna Miller as a tech billionaire and an actress fighting a contentious divorce. George Kay developed the series with hopes of following a new legal case each season. Animation fans also receive Get Jiro! on Toonami and HBO Max alongside the third season of the Ranma ½ remake on Netflix.
1 East of Eden
- Available on Netflix
- Genre: Drama
- Episode count: 8
- Cast: Florence Pugh, Mike Faist, Christopher Abbott, Hoon Lee

Zoe Kazan adapts John Steinbeck’s epic novel, which recreates the myth of Cain and Abel across generations and two families named the Hamiltons and the Trasks. The series centers on Cathy Ames, played by Florence Pugh. In an interview with TUDUM, Kazan noted that she drew inspiration from Steinbeck calling the book the story of his country and himself.
I really took that as my credo. It needs to be epic and intimate. It needs to be as personal for me as it was for him, even though he’s literally writing about his family.
2 War

- Available on HBO Max
- Genre: Drama
- Episode count: 8
- Cast: Dominic West, Sienna Miller, Archie Renaux
War has a two-season order, with each season following different cases involving rival London legal firms. Season one focuses on the escalating divorce between Morgan Henderson, played by Dominic West, and Carla Duval, played by Sienna Miller. Carla suspects her husband of cheating, hires a woman to seduce him, and hands the evidence to her lawyers to launch the bitter split.
3 Get Jiro!

- Available on HBO Max
- Genre: Animation
- Episode count: 10
- Cast: Brian Tee, Alison Pill, Titus Welliver
Get Jiro! adapts the graphic novel co-written by Anthony Bourdain and Joel Rose with art by Langdon Foss. Jiro is a chef living in futuristic Los Angeles where gourmet factions fight for dominance. A Polygon review describes the series as a blend of John Wick and Delicious in Dungeon.
While Bourdain invented Get Jiro’s absurd world where restaurant staff beat each other to death with kitchen utensils, many of the Adult Swim series’ best parts aren’t from the comics at all. Tanaka and Gatewood made this decadent version of Los Angeles feel alive by adding family restaurants just trying to get by, a disciplined health inspector looking for justice, and an overeager young apprentice for Jiro. They pack original humor into scenes involving hungry beat cops, corrupt politicians, and frustrated investors. The season ends by teasing an entirely new adventure, and I would gladly sit down for another serving to see what the showrunners could do if they weren’t rushing to cram two graphic novels into 10 episodes.
4 Ranma ½
- Available on Netflix
- Genre: Animation
- Episode count: 12 episodes per season
- Cast: Kappei Yamaguchi, Megumi Hayashibara, Noriko Hidaka

Ranma ½ follows Ranma Saotome, a martial arts boy who falls into a cursed spring and transforms into a girl whenever splashed with cold water, reverting to a boy with warm water. While learning to manage his transformations, Ranma deals with an engagement to Akane Tendo. A new season debuts on Netflix.
5 Coven Academy
- Available on Disney Plus
- Genre: Sci-fi
- Episode count: 10
- Cast: Malina Pauli Weissman, Malachi Barton, Tiffani Thiessen

Coven Academy follows three teenage witches at an elite boarding school balancing magic studies with romance and supernatural threats. Created by Tim Federle, the series draws inspiration from 1990s teen shows like Dawson’s Creek and Charmed, as he told The Hollywood Reporter.
6 Marshals

- Available on Paramount Plus
- Genre: Western
- Episode count: 18
- Cast: Luke Grimes, Ash Santos, Arielle Kebbel
Taylor Sheridan expands his Western television universe as Marshals launches its second season. Luke Grimes reprises his role as Kacey Dutton, who leaves the Yellowstone ranch to join U.S. Marshals in Montana. Dutton searches for his kidnapped son to kick off the high-stakes narrative.
7 Kill Jackie

- Available on AMC Plus
- Genre: Crime
- Episode count: 8
- Cast: Catherine Zeta-Jones, Christine Adams, Hattie Hook
Adapted from the novel The Price You Pay, Kill Jackie gender-swaps the lead role to feature Catherine Zeta-Jones as Jackie Price. She plays a glamorous art dealer whose former life as a drug dealer threatens the life she built.
8 Tip Toe

- Available on Starz
- Genre: Drama
- Episode count: 5
- Cast: Alan Cumming, David Morrissey, Elizabeth Berrington
Alan Cumming stars as Leo Struthers in Tip Toe, portraying an HIV-positive gay bartender found dead in his apartment. The five-episode drama uses flashbacks across the preceding 10 days to examine the events leading to his death.
