Standing out as one of the most compelling releases of the year, Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is gearing up for its premier post-launch expansion. Warner Bros. Games has officially pulled back the curtain on the upcoming add-on starring Gotham’s favorite criminal power couple, The Joker and Harley Quinn. Alongside the reveal trailer, the publisher confirmed fresh Bat-family cosmetics and locked in an official launch date: September 18.
Villainous Mayhem and Tailored Gameplay
Whereas prior entries in the franchise leaned on massive, sprawling rosters, Legacy of the Dark Knight opted for a refined, intimate cast. This focused approach allowed Batman’s core allies to shine through bespoke abilities and distinct gadgetry. The forthcoming expansion applies that same meticulous design philosophy to Gotham’s premier villains.
The headline attraction is an all-new narrative stage where the chaotic duo spearheads a daring breakout from the depths of Arkham Asylum. Beyond the story mission, players can dive into Mayhem Mode—a high-octane, time-limited gauntlet requiring players to rampage across Gotham City, topple iconic landmarks, clear objectives, and withstand encounters against elite Task Force X operatives including:
- Deathstroke
- Killer Croc
- Deadshot
- Captain Boomerang
- King Shark
- Polka-Dot Man
- Katana
Every session in Mayhem Mode operates against a ticking clock; players must secure their escape route back to Amusement Mile before Batman and Robin close in. Additionally, all seven base-game protagonists will receive sinister Joker-themed alternate outfits, highlighted by the terrifying “Batman Who Laughs” suit for Bruce Wayne.
Absolute Difficulty & Platform Availability
This villain expansion is bundled with the Deluxe Edition, while base-game owners can upgrade their copy separately for $24.99. Launching concurrently across all platforms is a complimentary quality-of-life update introducing Absolute Difficulty. Designed to surpass Dark Knight mode, this new tier provides a much-needed tactical challenge for seasoned players looking to push their combat and traversal skills to the limit.
The Joker & Harley Quinn DLC and the free Absolute update will both arrive on September 18, landing day-and-date with the eagerly awaited Nintendo Switch 2 launch.
