Kingdom Come: Deliverance Creator Defends Andrzej Sapkowski, Mentions the “Hussite Trilogy”

Daniel Vávra, Creative Director at Warhorse Studios and the creator of Kingdom Come: Deliverance, has defended Andrzej Sapkowski, who for years has faced backlash from some gamers over the payment dispute with CD Projekt for The Witcher rights.

In a post on X, the developer argued that certain players have been unfairly harsh toward the author of The Witcher — criticizing his stance on screen adaptations, his demeanor, and his public remarks. Vávra portrayed Sapkowski as a genuine, sharp-witted and often sarcastic Slavic figure whose bluntness is frequently misinterpreted.

Vávra said it is difficult to justify hostility toward a writer who created the universe that became the basis for games beloved by many. He likened the situation to that of J. K. Rowling, suggesting that people often overlook the authors’ role in shaping the worlds fans come to care about. The post drew responses from the community and rekindled debate about the relationship between original creators and their adaptations.

Vávra also mentioned Sapkowski’s Hussite Trilogy, calling it among the best books he has ever read, and noted that the series was one of the inspirations behind Kingdom Come: Deliverance.
