Kerbal Space Program coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X with free upgrade

Kerbal Space Program is making the leap to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, publisher Private Division and developers Squad and BlitWorks announced Thursday. Kerbal Space Program Enhanced Edition for current-generation consoles will be released sometime this fall for $39.99.

Fans who already own Kerbal Space Program Enhanced Edition on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One will get a free upgrade to the Enhanced Edition for PS5 and Xbox Series X at launch.

The PS5 and Xbox Series X versions of Kerbal Space Program will offer improved resolution, advanced shaders, and better textures alongside other performance improvements. Players can also plug a mouse and keyboard into their new consoles and play that way. The PS5 and Xbox Series X will run the Enhanced Edition at quad HD 1440p, and offer a higher frame rate than the current console versions. (Xbox Series S will get the frame rate boost but will only display Kerbal Space Program at 1080p.) Players will be able to add even more parts to their spaceships, thanks to the increased memory on all the current-gen systems.

June 24 also marks Kerbal Space Program’s 10th anniversary. The team created the above video to celebrate the milestone. Kerbal Space Program has been one of the most celebrated space simulators on the market, allowing fans to build and customize their own spaceships, launch from their Earth-like planet, and use realistic instruments and math to help them navigate the stars.

Kerbal Space Program 2 is currently in development at Intercept Games and Take-Two Interactive. The Kerbal Space Program sequel is currently slated for the second half of 2022, after several delays. Kerbal Space Program 2 will launch for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
