Following a series of incendiary claims made by Batwoman star Ruby Rose on Threads this past Sunday (April 12), Katy Perry’s management team issued a firm rebuttal on Monday morning (April 13), labeling the accusations of sexual assault as “categorically false.”
In a formal statement provided to Billboard, a representative for the singer condemned the narrative, asserting, “The allegations being circulated on social media by Ruby Rose regarding Katy Perry are not only categorically false, they are dangerous, reckless fabrications.” The statement further pointed to Rose’s documented history of leveling unsubstantiated public accusations against various industry peers—claims that have consistently been refuted by those involved.
The controversy erupted when Rose responded to a report detailing Perry’s lighthearted remarks regarding Justin Bieber’s Coachella set. Rose, 40, replied to a Complex Threads post, stating, “Katy Perry sexually assaulted me at a nightclub in Melbourne. Who gives a s–t what she thinks.”
In subsequent threads, the Australian actress detailed that the alleged incident occurred when she was in her early twenties. Rose explained, “As a woman, for a myriad of reasons, opening up about female-on-female violence and sexual abuse seems to be significantly more daunting than speaking about male predators.”
Rose claimed that she had previously downplayed the event as a “funny drunk story” because she felt pressure to maintain a cordial relationship with the pop star, who had allegedly assisted her with U.S. visa paperwork. “It has taken almost two decades to speak publicly about this,” Rose wrote. “I am grateful to have finally found my voice, despite the lasting impact that this trauma has had on me.”
While Rose initially indicated she had no intention of pursuing legal action, she later shifted her stance. Posting on Sunday, she announced, “Today I will be visiting a police station to see if any of my experiences can be investigated. Even if the statute of limitations has passed, it is vital to try.” On Monday, she confirmed she had visited a precinct, though it remains unclear whether she formally reported the specific incident involving Perry.
