Jennifer Lawrence Cast in Zach Cregger Sci-Fi Thriller The Flood

Zach Cregger is working on his next project titled The Flood, a mysterious sci-fi thriller that he will write, produce, and direct. This follows his work on Resident Evil and his 2025 movie Weapons.

Jennifer Lawrence will lead The Flood, as reported by Variety. Lawrence won an Oscar for 2012’s Silver Linings Playbook and is known for playing Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games, a role she reprises in this year’s Sunrise on the Reaping. Her filmography also includes 2017’s Mother and 2025’s Die My Love.

Cregger’s past films feature notable casts. Weapons stars Josh Brolin, Alden Ehrenreich, and Benedict Wong. At this time, Lawrence is the only confirmed cast member for The Flood. Zach Cregger said, “Jennifer is one of a kind, and I’m beyond excited to see her in this role.”

What we know about Zach Cregger’s The Flood

Cregger keeps the plot of The Flood heavily under wraps. He told Men’s Health that the film shares similarities with 2001: A Space Odyssey and may explore human nature and artificial intelligence.

Warner Bros. will release The Flood on August 11, 2028, after previously releasing Weapons in 2025. Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment produces the film alongside Roy Lee and Miri Yoon of Vertigo Entertainment.

Cregger currently has no other directorial projects lined up past The Flood. A Weapons prequel titled Gladys is in production for 2028, but Cregger is not directing it.
