Analysts Estimate Free Witcher 3 Remaster Could Earn CDPR Millions
The release of the updated version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt may attract many new players.
The remaster of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was released on September 29. CD Projekt RED is not selling the updated version of the game as a separate product, as it was released as an update, meaning current owners received the remaster for free.
Nevertheless, this release could help the Polish company earn a lot of money. Analysts from Poland’s Erste explained their forecast. They expect that the launch of the free remaster of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will “generate strong interest and potentially allow the game to approach its all-time peak concurrent player count on Steam.” The launch of the remaster is also expected to attract new users.

The original version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was released in May 2015. Since then, the game has received a pair of premium story expansions—Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine—and sales of the game have exceeded 65 million copies.
By the end of 2026, Erste believes that cumulative sales of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt could exceed 70 million copies, and reach around 75 million by the time the story expansion Songs of the Past (or “Ballads of the Past”) is released. This DLC does not have a specific release date yet, as the team plans to release it in 2027.
