Hacked PlayStation 5 consoles begin running PlayStation 2 games in 4K at 60 FPS

Tech enthusiast Swordpdf recently proposed a new way to use the PlayStation 5. Version 1.00 of the “PS5SX2” project has been released. Users can now run PlayStation 2 games directly on Sony’s modern console without streaming them from a PC.

The PS5SX2 emulator supports PCSX2 “.pnach” format patches, including modifications for modern screen support and 60 FPS. In addition, the emulator allows players to play online. According to the developer, SOCOM II: U.S. Navy SEALs can already be played in multiplayer on PS Rewired servers.

PS5SX2 includes a full-featured interface with a game library featuring automatically downloaded cover art.

Along with SOCOM II, games being tested also include:

• Kingdom Hearts Final Mix
• The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring

• Oni

The developer stated that the emulator can render games at resolutions up to 6 times higher than the original, including 4K output. Players can adjust resolution, aspect ratio, filters, and graphics and performance settings directly during gameplay.
