Japanese Creators Are Making Fake Anime Openings and Planning to Turn the Most Popular Into Real Franchises

The initiative’s creators invite viewers to determine the fate of future titles.

Japanese company KUROGO, with support from Kodansha Creators’ Lab, has launched the SYNXRO Project. Its participants will create full openings for non-existent anime, and the most successful concepts may later be turned into series, manga, novels, and other standalone projects.

Audience reaction will largely determine the fate of each idea. The creators will factor in views and shares of the videos, music streams, merchandise sales, and viewer messages. After deducting expenses, the revenue generated is planned to be distributed among the creators who participated in developing the specific concept.

The first work from SYNXRO is an opening for the fictional anime “Clothing, Food, Food, Food, and Shelter” (Ishoku Shokushokuju). Titled “Glass World’s End,” the opening has already appeared on the project’s official YouTube channel.

The setting of the potential anime takes place in a world devastated by global warming and wars over depleting resources. Food preparation culture has nearly vanished, and survivors receive rations. The main character is Hotaru, a 13-year-old suffering from memory loss who travels through the ruins of Tokyo with a mobile food cart, dreaming of reviving haute cuisine, opening her own restaurant, and bringing ramen back to humanity. Meanwhile, the authorities are advancing a program to turn people into post-humans who no longer need food or sleep.

Manga artist Ken Sogen conceived the concept. DÉ DÉ MOUSE composed the music for the opening, Hitomi Toi performed the song, and pre_sktch handled the storyboard and animation.

By the end of 2026, SYNXRO will present four more openings for non-existent anime. The team plans to release new videos monthly, and the songs from them will appear on Spotify, Apple Music, and other streaming platforms.
