«It: Welcome to Derry» officially renewed for a second season

HBO has officially greenlit a second season of the series IT: Welcome to Derry, according to industry reports.

This prequel to Stephen King’s IT explores the sinister origins of Pennywise the Dancing Clown (Bill Skarsgård) within the haunting confines of Derry. The upcoming season will transport viewers to 1935, set against the backdrop of the Great Depression. A pivotal moment in the new episodes will feature the infamous Bradley Gang massacre, a harrowing event chronicled in King’s original novel.

The debut season of Welcome to Derry premiered in the fall of 2025, garnering favorable reviews from critics and holding an 80% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. While a specific release date for the second season has yet to be announced, Brad Caleb Kane will return as the showrunner. Andy Muschietti, who directed the IT film duology (2017, 2019), continues to serve as an executive producer.
