Finnish filmmaker Timo Vuorensola, the visionary behind Iron Sky, has unveiled his latest ambitious venture: a cinematic trilogy titled Deep Red. This new saga explores the concept of Soviet colonization on Mars, as exclusively reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
The narrative of Deep Red centers on a clandestine group of communists who established a secret foothold on the Red Planet during the 1950s, forging a hidden socialist utopia. Decades later, an American astronaut crash-lands on the planet, only to discover that the society is now governed by an advanced artificial intelligence named Deep Red—an entity evolved from a vintage Soviet chess-playing supercomputer.
Vuorensola is reuniting with producer Tero Kaukomaa, with plans to commence principal photography in 2027. The trilogy is slated for a staggered release in 2029, 2030, and 2031. With a projected budget of €15 million, the script is currently being penned by an American writer whose identity remains undisclosed.
Vuorensola’s breakout hit, Iron Sky, debuted in 2012 and followed the surreal premise of Nazis hiding on the dark side of the Moon. The film achieved immediate cult status, eventually expanding into a multi-media franchise including a sequel, graphic novels, and a video game.
