Iconic Star Citizen Fan Site Closes — Fans Scramble to Save the Beloved Site

It appears StarShip42 will not outlive the release of Star Citizen 1.0.

For nearly ten years the Star Citizen community has relied on StarShip42 — a fan-run ship database put together by a single enthusiast.

He recently reached out to fans and announced the site’s imminent closure:

“I launched StarShip42.com in 2016 as a small hobby project — a way to explore, compare, and dream about the incredible ships of Star Citizen. What started as a late-night experiment has grown far beyond what I imagined, fueled by the community’s amazing passion and creativity.

After many years of updates and friendships, I feel it’s time to close this chapter. Life has taken me in several wonderful directions, and I no longer have the time or energy to maintain the site at the level it deserves. StarShip42 will remain online until October 22, 2025, after which it will be permanently shut down.”

The site’s creator isn’t saying farewell — he plans to keep “flying among the stars,” and added that “StarShip42 may one day return in a different form.”

Several active members of the Star Citizen community are attempting to contact the creator to offer ongoing support and take over maintenance of the resource.
