We return with fresh insights into the upcoming Iceland DLC for Euro Truck Simulator 2! In this update, we are excited to showcase the raw, natural splendor of the “Land of Fire and Ice,” focusing specifically on its magnificent and diverse coastline.

Spanning nearly 5,000 kilometers, Iceland’s perimeter offers a vivid masterclass in geological contrast. The terrain is a literal manifestation of its nickname, sculpted by the dual forces of glacial ice and volcanic heat. You will encounter towering precipices overlooking deep fjords carved out during the last ice age, juxtaposed against expansive stretches of black sand created by millennia of eruptive activity.

Interestingly, the majority of Iceland’s beaches depart from the traditional golden hue in favor of deep obsidian sands. This ethereal, dark landscape is the result of molten lava rapidly vitrifying upon contact with the frigid North Atlantic. Over time, the relentless ocean has eroded basaltic rock to form these iconic shores, while the horizon is frequently punctuated by jagged skerries and small, rocky islets that underscore the region’s rugged character.

Among the most striking landmarks in this expansion is Reynisdrangar—a cluster of majestic basalt sea stacks emerging from the waves just off the coast of Reynisfjara. Located near the charming southern village of Vík í Mýrdal, these pillars are the weathered remnants of massive cliffs that once stood firm against the tide, now standing as silent sentinels beneath the shadows of Mt. Reynisfjall.

While the scenery is undeniably captivating, it demands respect. This stretch of coast is known for its treacherous “sneaker waves” and powerful undercurrents that can catch the unwary by surprise. The constant pressure of coastal erosion further shapes this wild environment, making it as volatile as it is beautiful.

The northwestern reaches of the island house the Vestfirðir, or “West Fjords,” a name that perfectly encapsulates the labyrinthine geography of the area. Here, drivers can navigate a winding coastal route defined by deep glacial inlets that reach far into the mainland. Traversing Route 60 offers an immersive experience, with panoramic ocean views, sheer mountain drops, and untamed terrain greeting you at every bend.

For those hauling cargo along the iconic Ring Road, the southeast coast provides a different kind of visual feast. In this region, vast glacial rivers transport volcanic sediment toward the sea, resulting in a dynamic tapestry of braided rivers, crystal-clear lagoons, and shifting sandbars that decorate the shoreline.

Continuing your journey, you will encounter massive escarpments that once served as the island’s ancient sea shelf. The road here clings to a narrow strip of land, sandwiched between the vast expanse of the ocean and these hulking stone giants that rise vertically from the earth—a testament to Iceland’s shifting geological history.
