Iceland: The Fjords

We are thrilled to unveil another glimpse into the highly anticipated Iceland map expansion for Euro Truck Simulator 2. Today, we invite you to explore the breathtaking majesty of the island’s iconic fjords.

Icelandic fjord landscape

These ancient, glacier-carved inlets define the spirit of the Land of Fire and Ice. Scattered across the island, these dramatic landscapes are a rich tapestry of towering cliffs, teeming wildlife, and historic fishing settlements that have stood the test of time.

Replicating Iceland’s vast topography within our game scale proved to be a compelling creative challenge. While these geologic formations span vast distances in the real world, our design team worked meticulously to balance authentic realism with immersive gameplay, ensuring the grand, sweeping scale of these vistas remained intact.

Drivers can look forward to winding coastal routes that mirror the true Icelandic experience. You will navigate long, serpentine stretches of road, with the imposing sight of the fjord constantly framing your journey, providing a sense of scale that is truly unparalleled.

The addition of dynamic water elements—cascading waterfalls, meandering streams, and tranquil, mirror-like bays—breathes life into these environments. This constant interplay of movement and reflection ensures that Iceland’s fjords feel vibrant and distinct from any other mountainous terrain in the game.

Our developers shared their perspective on the design process: “Modeling and texturing these fjords was an intensive labor of love,” noted Jan. “By utilizing satellite imagery, we were able to reconstruct the natural evolution of these landscapes, ensuring that they appear geologically sound from every vantage point.”

“Initially, the scale was almost alien,” adds designer Ashley. “But once you begin to observe the logical progression and continuity of the rock formations, the landscape begins to tell a story. My goal was to create that same ‘aha’ moment for players—where the sheer awe of the size transitions into an appreciation for how these natural features are interconnected.”

You will encounter diverse locales, each possessing a unique character. From the crucial ferry gateway of Seyðisfjörður, which welcomes travelers arriving from Denmark, to the industrial significance of Reyðarfjörður’s aluminum facilities and the serene, quaint atmosphere of Stöðvarfjörður, the variety is vast.

Western fjord landscape

In the remote, rugged wilderness of the Westfjords, you’ll tackle the monumental Álftafjörður—the most expansive and imposing fjord in the DLC—before visiting the vital economic hub of Ísafjörður, perched beautifully on a narrow headland.

If you’re eager to navigate these northern roads, please show your support by adding the Iceland expansion to your Steam wishlist.
