Prime Video hosts a steady lineup of high-profile action thrillers. Subscribers can watch Rami Malek shift from CIA analyst to operative in The Amateur, Idris Elba take charge in The Take, Tom Cruise execute massive stunts in Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning, or Glen Powell fight for survival in The Running Man. Beyond major studio blockbusters, the platform frequently offers smaller genre films a second chance with audiences.

The 2025 release Icefall is currently benefiting from that exposure. FlixPatrol data lists the frozen-lake survival thriller as the No. 2 movie on Prime Video in the United States, drawing far more viewers than it received during its initial rollout.

What is Icefall about?

Directed by Stefan Ruzowitzky, Icefall centers on an ex-Marine and poacher named Harlan, played by Joel Kinnaman. While out on the water, Harlan discovers a submerged plane holding millions of dollars beneath a frozen lake.

Before Harlan can claim the cash, Cara Jade Myers’ character Ani, a young Indigenous game warden, places him under arrest. When heavily armed criminals and corrupt police officers arrive to retrieve the loot, Harlan and Ani form an uneasy alliance. The two must evade their pursuers while navigating rapidly cracking, treacherous ice.

The premise mirrors the tension of No Country for Old Men, swapping barren desert roads for subzero wilderness while keeping the core dynamic of desperate characters chasing a fortune. Although Icefall received limited, mixed reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, the straightforward hook and frozen setting have helped the film gain traction following its initial video-on-demand run.
