Annapurna has begun developing a full‑length feature centered on the Moomins, according to Variety.
The Moomins were created by Finnish author Tove Jansson. These enchanting characters—often described as kin to Scandinavian trolls—reside in Moominvalley (Mumindalen).
The forthcoming animated film will be the first Moomin feature produced on U.S. soil. Rebecca Sugar, known for creating Steven Universe, is attached as both writer and director. The release date and cast will be announced at a later time.
In 2019 the U.K. premiered the animated series Moominvalley, which featured Rosamund Pike. Earlier Soviet-era adaptations, such as Moomintroll and the Comet and Moomintroll and Others, are also well known.
