The film adaptation is being directed by Spider-Man: Brand New Day director Destin Daniel Cretton.

Journalist Caleb Williams from Knight Edge Media has shared the reported synopsis for the live-action Naruto movie directed by Destin Daniel Cretton:

“The story takes place in a thrilling alternative world where every child dreams of becoming a ninja. Naruto Uzumaki—an exceptionally gifted yet troubled novice—gets his first assignment alongside Sasuke and Sakura, who are not too thrilled about such a teammate. The mission turns out to be much more dangerous and ominous than expected. Naruto has to face his inner demons, including a real demon that turns out to be the source of his power.”

Judging by the description, the feature-length adaptation will start Naruto’s story from the very beginning and cover the Land of Waves arc, which focuses on the formation of Team 7 and its first major mission.

This is also supported by recent changes to casting requirements. It was initially reported that the production was looking for actors aged 16 to 20 to play Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura. However, a second casting call opened two weeks ago exclusively for the roles of Naruto and Sakura. This time, the creators are looking for children aged 13 to 15 who have experience in gymnastics, dance, or martial arts.

The film is being directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, who directed Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Spider-Man: Brand New Day. According to casting agency Carmen Cuba Casting, principal photography for the film is scheduled to run from January to August 2027. The movie does not have a release date yet.
