Heroes of Might and Magic III Buyers on Steam Leave Negative Reviews After Not Receiving the Game
The Steam release of the cult classic strategy game ran into an unusual launch mishap.
In late August, Ubisoft Entertainment announced a remake of the iconic Heroes of Might and Magic III while also launching the original version of Heroes Of Might And Magic III on PC via Steam. This edition bundled two expansions, Armageddon’s Blade and The Shadow of Death. Prior to this release, Valve’s platform offered only the updated HD Edition.
Early buyers quickly encountered an unexpected issue when initiating the download. Steam reported the total file size at just 23.49 KB. While some users initially suspected the download was a lightweight launcher designed to pull the game data on first boot, the situation proved different.
Players who downloaded the Steam release of Heroes Of Might And Magic III received only a single executable file measuring just over 23 KB.
Community members suggested that the developers may have missed a configuration step during deployment, preventing the full game build from rolling out properly. The missing files drove user reviews on Steam down to a “Mixed” rating, with negative feedback focusing entirely on the empty launcher package.
Ubisoft Entertainment resolved the problem roughly 10 hours later by deploying an update. Heroes of Might and Magic III is now fully available on Steam, with the complete game download taking up slightly more than 980 MB.
