Helldivers 2 Developers Hand Out Commemorative Cloak to All Players After Kill Counter Bug

Owing to technical peculiarities, the event did not unfold exactly as intended.

The Helldivers 2 team occasionally launches community-wide challenges. The recent Liberty Day 2025 celebration, however, encountered several problems.

Players were asked to eliminate a set number of enemies using the R-2124 Constitution rifle. There was, however, a technical detail: damage could be registered either from shooting or from melee (bayonet) strikes.

In the game’s statistics, bayonet kills and shooting kills are recorded separately. The developers opted to count only shooting kills, since that is the rifle’s primary mode of use — which excluded the melee kills.

Because of this counting method, it’s difficult to say definitively whether the community completed the objective, given the “lost” melee kills.

The Helldivers 2 team resolved the situation by simply awarding the commemorative cloak “True Ideology” to all players.
