Happy Death Day Director Finalizes Vision for Potential Third Installment
Christopher Landon, the creative force behind the “Happy Death Day” franchise, has reportedly “fully mapped out” the concept for a third film. This exciting update was shared by the series’ lead star, Jessica Rothe.
“I believe it’s a matter of the zeitgeist: the more we advocate for it and demonstrate our investment, the more likely it is to come to fruition. In truth, Chris Landon—our brilliant and fearless writer-director—has completely cracked the code for the third movie. At this stage, it’s purely a logistical hurdle. All I can say to the fans is that I am ready to see this story through to the end, whether that happens next year or when I’m 65, much like Jamie Lee Curtis in the ‘Halloween’ legacy,”
— Rothe revealed during an interview with ScreenRant.
“Happy Death Day” offers a slasher-inspired reimagining of the “Groundhog Day” premise. The narrative follows college student Tree Gelbman, who is murdered on her birthday and forced to relive the fatal day on a continuous loop until she can unmask her killer.
The original film debuted in 2017, followed by the high-concept sequel “Happy Death Day 2U” in 2019. Together, the two entries have earned a combined $125 million at the global box office.
