In recent days, reports have circulated online about a possible data breach affecting Nintendo users. A group calling itself Crimson Collective, previously linked to an attack on Red Hat, has claimed responsibility for breaching servers.
After the rumours surfaced, Nintendo released an official statement:
“We have not lost any users’ personal data, nor has there been a leak of information about games in development or internal projects.” The company stressed that player security has not been compromised.
According to the Japanese newspaper Sankei, the intrusion did affect external servers tied to some of Nintendo’s web services, but investigators have found no evidence of data exfiltration or harm to customers.
Observers compared the incident to the high-profile Teraleak breach, which resulted in Game Freak materials related to Pokémon being published online. This time, however, nothing of that nature occurred — no user data was taken and no information about upcoming titles was exposed.
Nintendo has assured the public that the incident will not disrupt the company’s operations or its plans.
