Gintama: Yoshiwara in Flames Anime Film Premieres on Netflix with New Scenes and Characters

The iconic story arc from the original series has been completely reimagined for the big screen.

The feature-length anime film Gintama: Yoshiwara in Flames is now available on Netflix. To celebrate the streaming premiere, the service also released a new clip from the film featuring Gintoki and his friends.

The movie re-adapts the Yoshiwara in Flames arc, which was previously covered in episodes 139–146 of the original series. For the feature version, the creators completely reworked the animation for a 2.35:1 widescreen aspect ratio and added new scenes and characters that were absent from the television adaptation.

In the story, Gintoki and his friends travel to the hidden red-light district of Yoshiwara to help a boy named Seita find his missing mother. Their search leads the heroes to a confrontation with Hosen, a powerful member of the Yato clan who keeps the district and its residents under his control.

The film was produced by studio BN Pictures. It was directed by Naoya Ando (Paradox Live), with a script by Taku Kishimoto (Blue Lock) and overall supervision by Yoichi Fujita, the chief director of the television Gintama series.

The Japanese premiere of Gintama: Yoshiwara in Flames took place on February 13, 2026. The original anime series spans 367 episodes, and the main story was concluded by the feature film Gintama: The Very Final, which was released in 2021.
