Borderlands 4 has launched, and while opinions on the game itself are still settling, one issue towers over the rest: poor PC performance. Worries about how the game would run were loud before release, and they’ve become the main source of criticism since launch. Gearbox — including CEO Randy Pitchford — has offered several suggestions to improve framerates, though those recommendations have met with mixed reactions from players.
Pitchford highlighted a tip shared by creator MoxsyOG, noting that the streamer saw framerates jump from 90fps to 160fps and that a full video and Twitch stream would follow. Moxsy’s Twitch channel was linked as the place to watch the demonstration.
For a more technical route, Gearbox published an “Nvidia Optimization guide” on Steam that lays out recommended settings for different resolution and framerate targets across several Nvidia GPUs. Those charts can be more practical if you want to squeeze out performance — provided you’re running Nvidia hardware. See the guide on Steam.
Still, the charts also highlight the unpleasant reality for older cards: for example, an RTX 2070 may only reach roughly 30 FPS at 1080p on low settings even with DLSS enabled. That’s far beneath the standard many PC gamers expect, and the game’s Steam event comments are full of frustrated threads documenting similar experiences. Read the community feedback on Steam.
