Gary Oldman Reveals the Name of the New Bond

Academy Award winner Gary Oldman claims that the successor to the James Bond franchise has already been selected. According to the veteran actor, the coveted role will go to his Slow Horses co-star, Jack Lowden.

“There’s talk that he’s on the shortlist. We’ll find out soon enough, won’t we? Because he’s been chosen. They’ve already made their decision, even if they haven’t made it public yet. So, I’m keeping my fingers crossed for Jack,”

— Oldman remarked during an interview with the Canadian outlet Global. The actor did not specify the source or evidence behind his assertions.

Speculation regarding Lowden’s potential casting first emerged in August, courtesy of author Richard Osman (The Thursday Murder Club). Following his comments, the tabloid Page Six reported on a list of potential frontrunners for the role of 007, which, alongside Lowden, included Jacob Elordi, Paul Mescal, and Harris Dickinson.

Amazon MGM Studios has yet to make an official announcement regarding the next James Bond. Denis Villeneuve (Dune) is set to helm the 26th installment of the franchise, with Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight penning the screenplay. An official release date has not been confirmed.

Oldman and Lowden are set to reunite for the sixth season of Slow Horses, which premieres September 16 on Apple TV+.
