Just over a year after its dramatic cinematic unveiling, Game of Thrones: War for Westeros has finally stepped onto the battlefield with its first full gameplay showcase, premiered live during Gamescom Opening Night Live. The upcoming real-time strategy title brings the brutal political struggles and mythical warfare of George R.R. Martin’s dark fantasy universe to life.

Set across the Seven Kingdoms, War for Westeros places tactical control firmly in the hands of the players, who will command four legendary factions: House Stark, House Lannister, House Targaryen, and the chilling legions of the White Walkers. Highlighting the experience are central franchise icons faithfully rendered with the likenesses of their HBO counterparts—including Jon Snow, Daenerys Targaryen, Jaime Lannister, Robb Stark, Tywin Lannister, and the Night King. Each commander wields unique battlefield abilities designed to swing the momentum of war and secure ultimate dominion over the Iron Throne.

According to the development team, the title relies heavily on asymmetric faction design. Every side features bespoke economic mechanics, unique infrastructure, and tailored military playstyles inspired directly by their lore. Victory demands thorough resource management, base expansion, and tactical battlefield deployment. Armies range from traditional infantry, heavy cavalry, and siege engines to mythical titans such as towering giants and fire-breathing dragons. Strategy enthusiasts can experience the sprawling conflict through a rich narrative solo campaign or challenge rival tacticians in online multiplayer skirmishes.

Following a shift from its previously targeted 2026 launch window, Game of Thrones: War for Westeros is officially slated to arrive on PC via Steam in early 2027.
