FromSoftware Reportedly Rejected Bluepoint’s Bloodborne Remake Pitch

Bloodborne Remake Pitch Concept

Following the recent dissolution of Bluepoint Games by PlayStation, a new report has shed light on what could have been. The studio, legendary for its meticulous recreations of Demon’s Souls and Shadow of the Colossus, was widely considered the primary candidate for a Bloodborne remake. According to Bloomberg, Bluepoint did indeed pitch such a project in early 2025, but the proposal was ultimately blocked.

The report suggests that while Sony felt the financial prospects of a Bloodborne remake were sound, the project was halted because FromSoftware did not want it to proceed. This corroborates a theory previously floated by former PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida, who hinted that Hidetaka Miyazaki—the visionary behind the 2015 classic—might harbor a desire to oversee any future iterations of the game personally. Despite PlayStation owning the intellectual property, the company chose to honor Miyazaki’s protective stance over his work.

Before the Bloodborne pitch, Bluepoint was reportedly deep in development on a live-service spin-off of the God of War franchise. This project was set to follow Atreus as he navigated the treacherous depths of the Greek underworld, Hades. The concept allegedly featured cooperative mechanics and various iterations of Atreus for players to control. However, Sony canceled the project in January 2025, leaving the studio to scramble for a new lead title.

In a desperate attempt to stay afloat, Bluepoint reportedly suggested several other projects, including a Ghost of Tsushima expansion and a further refined version of their own 2018 Shadow of the Colossus remake. Internal morale reportedly plummeted on February 12, when Sony announced that a different studio would be handling the remake of the original God of War trilogy. Only a week later, PlayStation officially shuttered Bluepoint Games, ending a five-year partnership that began with the studio’s acquisition in 2021.
