Helldivers 2 Receives Thousands of Negative Reviews After Update Breaks Popular Mod
Players who rely on the Custom Galactic War mod for Helldivers 2 have run into problems after the game’s latest update.
Arrowhead Game Studios recently released the large 7.2.0 update, called Devoid of Liberty, which the source sarcastically says “delighted” players. It brought a range of improvements and a new anti-cheat system.
The co-op shooter now uses Easy Anti-Cheat to protect against cheaters. Soon afterward, the game received almost three thousand negative user reviews on Steam. The reasons were technical problems, including crashes reported by some players, and the breakdown of Custom Galactic War, a mod popular in the community.
The mod is on hold indefinitely. Its creators said that “[Easy Anti-Cheat] has effectively put CGW on hold for now,” and the project does not work with the current version of the game. The authors are now looking into “alternative options” to keep the mod available, such as supporting only earlier versions of the game or creating a new way around EAC after each update.
Custom Galactic War lets Helldivers 2 players customize the galactic campaign. Thanks to the modders, it enables battles involving multiple factions, as well as custom maps and other improvements.
