Free ‘The Witcher 3’ Remaster Promises Enhanced Combat and Stunning Visuals

While The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt remains widely celebrated as a pinnacle of modern role-playing games, its moment-to-moment mechanics have long drawn critique. CD Projekt Red is setting out to address those mechanical shortcomings while delivering a comprehensive visual overhaul with the newly announced The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered. The reveal trailer showcases a noticeably more vibrant aesthetic alongside a dedicated photo mode. However, the most significant refinements lie under the hood. Combat—often cited as the original release’s weakest pillar—has received a thorough redesign, introducing refined adversary behavior and fluid new finisher animations. Traversal has also gained welcome fluidity: Geralt now vaults over obstacles seamlessly and scales ladders with newfound agility. Even Roach’s notoriously clunky handling has been tuned, allowing riders to intuitively lean and weave through dense foliage.

Beyond mobility and combat, players will encounter a reworked skill tree alongside streamlined inventory management. The remaster also introduces a full transmogrification system, granting players the freedom to sport their favorite armor designs without sacrificing high-tier gear attributes.

Additionally, base-game owners will gain access to both universally lauded expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, free of charge. The generous package sets the stage for CD Projekt Red’s ambitious future pipeline.

In 2027, the studio is slated to deliver The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past, a massive narrative expansion, followed by the highly anticipated launch of The Witcher 4 in 2028.
