Fortnite’s Next Season May Not Be One Piece After All, According to New Official Ads
As Chapter 7 Season 4 nears its end, speculation has been building about the theme of the next Fortnite mini-season. The leading theory pointed to the hit manga and anime franchise One Piece, particularly after a mysterious pirate chest turned up on the island. Epic Games has now started putting up promotional posters. Their artwork hints that the mini-season could carry a broader anime theme instead of being a dedicated One Piece crossover.
Fortnite is observing Halloween throughout October. The Fortnitemares event will wrap up in the early hours of Nov. 1, at the same time as Chapter 7 Season 4. That clears the way for the yearly mini-season, which serves as a bridge into Chapter 8.
With Nov. 1 drawing closer, teasers for the mini-season have been rolling out. A huge pirate treasure chest was hacked into the island, and over the past few days it has been glitching and debugging, gradually revealing its true form. Since One Piece was already the favored guess for the theme, the chest only strengthened fans’ hopes. Not every teaser stayed in the game, though. As early as Oct. 20, Fortnite posters began showing up in the Madrid subway, and they weren’t what players had anticipated.

The Madrid posters showcase what look like original, cel-shaded anime-style skins designed by Epic Games. The first features a black-haired anime character beside a treasure map, with a caption asking whether you’ve seen the treasure. The second depicts a turquoise-haired character, who was previously spotted in a skin survey, and then cuts to a patch of sand with the words “Join the hunt.” Both posters display Fortnite‘s pirate llama logo.
The absence of any recognizable One Piece characters is discouraging news for fans who hoped to see Eiichiro Oda’s best-selling series arrive in Fortnite. A collaboration could still happen, but a full crossover season now looks less likely. Much like Chapter 1 Season 8, which used the slogan “X marks the spot,” this may simply be a pirate-themed season.
Many players would see this as a letdown compared with last year’s mini-season, a major Simpsons event that brought a Springfield map along with plenty of themed cosmetics and weapons. Still, there’s some hope that One Piece will make an appearance in the game.
