Five Key Moments From Critical Role Campaign 4

Comment Views: 2

Critical Role Campaign 4 has delivered intense drama since its October 2025 debut. The story features high-stakes battles, soul-forged bikinis, and frequent character death typical of a Dungeons & Dragons campaign. With 13 players, a West Marches structure, and Brennan Lee Mulligan as Dungeon Master, the table continues to produce volatile and unpredictable scenes.

Arc 2 of Campaign 4 premieres this Thursday night. Here are five of the biggest and wildest moments from the campaign so far.

5. The Destruction of Houses Royce and Davinos – Stone-Faced (4×04)

The four-episode overture of Campaign 4 contained numerous shocking turns. The most violent sequence occurred when House Tachonis assassins invaded Palazzo Davinos, slaughtering members of House Royce, House Davinos, and Occtis Tachonis, who eventually recovered.

Because the player characters were still low-level, viewers did not know which characters would survive into the next arc. The massacre reinforced the rule that anyone could die, establishing a brutal tone reminiscent of Game of Thrones that continues to define the campaign.

4. The Death of Casimir – Fanged Revenge (4×08)

Crow Keeper Casimir Gavendale betrayed Thjazi Fang, the figure responsible for uniting the 13 characters. In exchange for the betrayal, Casimir received the title Baron of Sloak, while Thjazi lost his life.

Thimble and the Soldiers table traveled swiftly to Sloak to avenge their fallen friend. Thimble cornered Casimir alone on the castle parapets during a rainstorm. The fairy rogue defeated Casimir in a direct duel, proving her lethal capabilities against any enemy foolish enough to cross her.

3. House Tachonis’ Plans for Occtis – Vindicta & Vale (4×18)

The overture featured the brutal murder of Occtis Tachonis at the hands of his brother Ethrand and father Primus Tachonis before his eventual return. The motive behind the killing remained an open question until the Seekers Arc.

While exploring the holy temple of the god Tansul in Tannesar, the Seekers discovered ancient records. Tansul had left instructions for his priest to transform into a monstrous celestial weapon capable of mass destruction. House Tachonis intended to use Occtis as the sacrifice required for that ritual, planning to turn him into a living weapon against rival houses. Bolaire Lathalia and Murray Mag’nesson intervened and prevented the ritual from taking place.

2. The Fake Resurrection of Yanessa Halovar – Targeted (4×25)

The Schemers Arc included several major twists, but one encounter made Critical Role history.

Assassins struck King Augustus of Timmony and Photarch Yanessa Halovar during the Arcanada gala. Divination wizard Murray Mag’nesson chose to prioritize saving Augustus, willing to let the Photarch die to weaken the political grip of House Halovar and the Candescent Creed over Aramán. Mulligan claimed that he had rolled a natural 1 on the Photarch’s death saving throw, meaning she required a high roll on her next check to survive. Murray then triggered her Portent feature to force a low result.

The Portent roll forced Mulligan to admit that he had lied about the natural 1 because the Photarch had been feigning death the entire time. Murray’s unexpected action exposed the deception and disrupted Mulligan’s plan to stage a convincing fake resurrection.

1. A Bridge Is Built – Here in the Dark (4×30)

The fate of the deceased remains a central dilemma in Campaign 4. The destruction of the gods during the Shaper’s War destroyed every afterlife. The celestials tasked with guiding souls went mad and had to be put down, leaving souls trapped in limbo. House Tachonis, a Sundered House skilled in necromancy, has exploited these trapped souls to build power.

Thjazi Fang founded a secret group named The Cloak to restore the lost connections to the afterlives. During a performance by Halandil Fang at The Hallowed Round theater, the group completed the first successful bridge, opening a path to the orcish afterlife known as the Dying Fields. The breakthrough gave the party tangible progress against the Sundered Houses following the deaths of allies like Teor and Cyd Pridesire.
