A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, HBO’s forthcoming Game of Thrones spinoff, isn’t arriving until early next year, but attendees at New York Comic Con were treated to the series’ first trailer on Thursday.

The preview centers on Ser Duncan the Tall (Peter Claffey), called “Dunk,” as he sets out to establish himself as a knight, accompanied by his young squire “Egg” (Dexter Sol Ansell). The trailer hints that Egg is more complex than he appears — viewers will learn how he connects to the wider saga when the six-episode season debuts on January 18, 2026.

In a deliberate tonal shift from Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon, the new miniseries dispenses with the franchise’s ornate opening-credit sequences. Showrunner Ira Parker told Entertainment Weekly that Dunk is straightforward and unadorned, and the creative team wanted the show’s visual identity — even the title card — to reflect that simplicity.

In short: a spare, uncluttered title treatment for a plainspoken protagonist.

The story is set between the eras of House of the Dragon and Game of Thrones, a time when dragons have disappeared from Westeros and the Targaryens’ authority is diminished without their dragons’ might — though the memory of those creatures still shapes the realm.

The series adapts George R.R. Martin’s Dunk and Egg novellas. The three tales — The Hedge Knight (1998), The Sworn Sword (2003), and The Mystery Knight (2010) — were later gathered as A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms (2015). The first season draws on The Hedge Knight, and Martin has said the show’s adaptation is as faithful as a reasonable fan could expect; he also notes that he plans another Dunk and Egg story only after he finishes The Winds of Winter.
