Square Enix has not revealed specifics about how it will conclude the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy, but game director Naoki Hamaguchi spoke at Brasil Game Show 2025 about the development progress. He stressed that the studio refused to cut any story beats or gameplay elements from the first two installments.
He explained that fans of the 1997 original expected a full recreation of each scene, which led the team to split the remake into three separate parts.
“Final Fantasy VII has an enormous and devoted fanbase. We could have condensed the narrative and released a single title, but fans of the original would never have forgiven us. To retell this story with modern technology, it needed to be divided into three projects.”
The director also said the third entry will close the trilogy with an ending designed to satisfy both longtime followers and newcomers who discovered the series through the remake.
“I already have a clear vision for the ending of Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3. I think it will resonate with those who love the original and with players who became fans more recently. I’m confident this game will be cherished by everyone.”
Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is scheduled to launch on Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S on January 22, 2026. Square Enix has confirmed that every entry in the trilogy will be released across all major platforms.
