Filming has begun for the medical series “Botkin”
Filming has officially begun in St. Petersburg for “Botkin,” an adventurous medical drama that masterfully blends historical fiction, speculative fantasy, and procedural elements. The series, commissioned by the Kion streaming platform, features Yevgeny Stychkin and Denis Vlasenko in the lead roles.
The narrative follows Vanya, a contemporary medical student who is inexplicably transported back to the mid-19th century. Upon his arrival, he encounters the legendary physician Sergey Botkin, a visionary struggling against the archaic medical practices of the era. While hospitals of the time still relied on outdated methods like bloodletting and lead-based poultices, Botkin strives to champion a rigorous, evidence-based scientific approach.
The series is helmed by director Alexander Kott, with a screenplay penned by Maria Zelinskaya.
Sergey Botkin was a genuine 19th-century Russian physician and is widely regarded as one of the founding fathers of scientific clinical medicine in Russia.
A release date for “Botkin” has yet to be announced.
