Filming for the second season of “Shōgun” has wrapped

Reports confirm that principal photography for the highly anticipated second season of Shōgun has concluded. The narrative of this new chapter will pick up a decade after the dramatic events of the series premiere.

Hiroyuki Sanada and Cosmo Jarvis are set to reprise their leading roles. The ensemble cast also features Fumi Nikaido, Shinnosuke Abe, Hiroto Kanai, Ryo Sato, and Seishiro Nishida, among others. The series is helmed by creators Rachel Kondo and Justin Marks, known for their work on Top Gun: Maverick.

Based on the classic novel by James Clavell, the story follows John Blackthorne (Jarvis), an English navigator who finds himself cast away in 17th-century feudal Japan. He eventually becomes an invaluable asset to the formidable Lord Toranaga (Sanada) as he navigates the complex and dangerous political landscape of warring clans.

Shōgun premiered on FX and Hulu in early 2024 to critical acclaim. The first season made history by securing a record-breaking 18 Emmy Awards. Audiences can look forward to the second season’s premiere, which is currently slated for 2027.
