The latest Final Fantasy XIV 7.5 Live Letter offered a comprehensive look at the upcoming patch cycle. While the broadcast covered standard additions—such as new dungeons, the conclusion of the Hildebrand saga, and fresh scenario quests—it also unveiled significant long-term updates, most notably the debut of the Beastmaster limited job and a long-awaited overhaul to inventory management.
The Beastmaster job will launch at level 1, though players must reach level 50 and finish the base A Realm Reborn main scenario to unlock it. True to the series’ roots, Beastmasters will weaken foes to capture them. Once secured, these creatures can be summoned in combat, with players able to deploy up to three companions simultaneously. At launch, the job will feature a 50-creature bestiary and a level cap of 50. Producer Naoki Yoshida also teased a single-player “nurturing” mode titled Crucible of the Unbroken, though further details remain under wraps.
While the Beastmaster is slated for arrival sometime within the 7.5 patch window (which runs from April 28 through September), Square Enix has opted to delay the next Blue Mage update to allocate resources effectively, meaning fans of the limited caster will have to wait a while longer for new content (translation via Nova Crystalis).
Inventory management is also receiving a massive quality-of-life boost, specifically regarding the game’s dye system. Instead of individual dyes clogging up precious bag space, Square Enix is consolidating them into three streamlined categories:
- Standard Dyes: Classic colors from A Realm Reborn (excluding premium options like Metallic or Jet Black).
- Restoration Dyes: Colors earned through the Ishgardian Restoration.
- Exploration Dyes: Colors unlocked via Cosmic Exploration tasks.
Under this new system, interacting with a dye category will open a sub-menu to select your desired shade. Players can trade their existing stockpiles of old dyes for the new versions at any Calamity Salvager NPC.
Furthermore, the Armoire is finally becoming a more functional storage solution. Players will soon be able to deposit Dawntrail dungeon gear and select Artifact gear directly into it, with plans to include gear from older expansions in future patches. Finally, some room to breathe for your retainers.
Housing enthusiasts will also see an increase in item placement caps for both interior and exterior areas. To maintain performance, a new priority setting will allow users to choose between rendering their own furnishings or prioritizing the visibility of nearby players.
The 7.5 patch cycle is packed with additional content, including:
- Continuation of the Main Scenario Quest.
- The addition of the Clyteum instanced dungeon.
- Expanded fishing routes.
- The grand finale of the “Inconceivably Further Hildebrand Adventures.”
- The concluding chapter of the Echoes of Vana’diel Alliance Raid.
- A new Allied Society capstone quest.
- Duty Support expansion for Heavensward’s Dusk Vigil and Stormblood’s Shisui of the Violet Tides.
- PvP Series 11 alongside a fresh Crystalline Conflict arena.
- A challenging new trial featuring Enuo from Final Fantasy V.
- A new Occult Crescent field operation.
Square Enix is expected to reveal further specifics during the FFXIV Fan Fest, scheduled for April 24 and 25 in Anaheim, California.
