Face/Off Sequel Loses Director

The highly anticipated Face/Off sequel has hit a significant roadblock: director Adam Wingard, who was set to helm the continuation of John Woo’s action legacy, has departed the project. Reports indicate that Wingard and Paramount Pictures reached a mutual decision to part ways, describing the split as amicable and free of creative friction.

Producers are now actively scouting for a new visionary to take the reins and spearhead the follow-up, which aims to revisit the iconic rivalry famously portrayed by John Travolta and Nicolas Cage.

The project was originally unveiled in 2019, though it was initially conceived as a complete remake. In 2021, the studio pivoted toward a direct sequel, enlisting Wingard to both write and direct. Despite that promising shift in direction, the production has once again stalled.

The 1997 cult classic followed a relentless FBI agent and a calculated terrorist who undergo a radical, experimental surgery to swap identities, leading to a high-stakes game of cat and mouse.
