The fantasy musical “Wicked: Forever” has broken the record for first-day advance ticket sales in 2025, the ticketing service Fandango reported.
“Wicked: Forever” surpassed titles such as “Superman” and “Demon Slayer,” among others. The film also ranks among the top ten all-time films for opening-day advance sales — alongside the final Avengers film, the seventh Star Wars installment, and “Spider-Man: No Way Home.”
Exact numbers have not been disclosed. The sequel is scheduled to open internationally on November 21. “Wicked” serves as an unofficial prequel to “The Wizard of Oz.” The story follows the green-skinned sorceress Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo), who becomes an outcast in Oz because of her magical abilities. She is forced into hiding from the authorities while her close friend Glinda enjoys widespread popularity across the land.
The film was directed by Jon M. Chu. “Wicked” is based on Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel of the same name and the 2003 Broadway musical. The first installment was released last year and grossed $756 million worldwide.
