AMC has officially greenlit a television series based on the classic film Point Break, with the narrative set more than three decades after the events of Kathryn Bigelow’s 1991 cult masterpiece. Production is slated to commence in early 2027, with a premiere anticipated later that same year. The project is a co-production with France’s Canal+, which will also handle distribution within its territories.

The series centers on a contemporary gang of thieves with ties to the iconic “Ex-Presidents” from the original film. As the FBI investigates a string of high-stakes heists, they enlist the help of an enigmatic former pro-surfer burdened by a complicated past. Tasked with infiltrating the criminal syndicate, the protagonist soon finds the line between his undercover mission and his personal loyalties beginning to blur.

The show will be spearheaded by showrunners and executive producers Dave Kalstein (NCIS: Los Angeles) and Christopher C. Rogers (Halt and Catch Fire). The season is set to consist of eight episodes, though an exact release date has yet to be finalized.
