Renowned for her iconic roles in “The Exorcist,” “Interstellar,” and “Requiem for a Dream,” Ellen Burstyn was honored with a career achievement award at the 2026 Venice Film Festival.

You have no idea how much this means to me. Winning an Oscar, a Tony, or an Emmy—all of which I have—is one thing. But this… this is truly extraordinary,

— the 93-year-old actress remarked, visibly moved during the gala ceremony.

The festival lineup featured “The Flesh Effect,” a short film directed by jury president Maggie Gyllenhaal, created to commemorate the centenary of Marilyn Monroe. In it, both Burstyn and Dakota Johnson portray the legendary Hollywood icon.

Burstyn will also be seen in another festival entry, Kornél Mundruczó’s “The Best Place,” which co-stars Taika Waititi and Pamela Anderson.

The Venice Film Festival continues through September 12.
