Electronic Arts to Shut Down Four Games Soon, Including Hockey Titles
Electronic Arts is preparing to shut down online servers for several legacy titles across its sports and racing catalogs.
EA Help confirmed that more titles will go offline at the end of August. Following the shutdown of Apex Legends servers on Nintendo Switch earlier this month, the publisher is now turning its attention to older installments of its hockey franchise.
Online services for the following NHL hockey simulators are scheduled to close on August 31:
- NHL 22 — PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S
- NHL 23 — PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S
Players of the basketball simulator NBA LIVE Mobile have also received notifications stating that online services will shut down permanently on October 27, 2024.
Additionally, Electronic Arts reminded players that servers for Grid Legends will go offline on September 11 across Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. The racing game launched in 2022 and received multiple post-launch expansions featuring new cars, story missions, tracks, and cosmetic items.
The next installment in the hockey franchise, NHL 27, is slated for release in September. Pre-orders are already live, and the development team shared initial gameplay details:
On the ice, gameplay is built around each team’s authentic style thanks to 32 unique NHL game plans powered by NHL EDGE data. Teams now play with a more recognizable structure, from how they break out of their own zone to how they forecheck on special teams and adapt late in close games. The result is more authentic matchups where every team feels different and strategy matters on every shift.

The standard edition of NHL 27 is expected on September 11, with early access offered to owners of premium editions.
