EA Forces Employees to Use AI “for Almost Everything,” Calling It a “Thinking Partner”
Artificial intelligence is expected to help the company repay its debt more quickly.
Business Insider, citing anonymous sources inside EA, reports that the company is effectively pushing employees to use AI in “almost everything.”
EA leadership reportedly began encouraging AI adoption roughly a year ago — well before the deal was announced. The company recommends AI tools for tasks ranging from generating code for game development and producing concept art to advising middle managers on how to communicate with their teams, including conversations about promotions. Staff are required to complete several training courses, covering topics from accelerating workflows with AI to using generative models as a “thinking partner”, according to internal documents obtained by Business Insider.
Among the tools available is an internal chatbot called ReefGPT. Employees complain the AI is unreliable at times: it produces faulty code and other inaccuracies that real workers then need extra time to correct.
One employee laid off this year — a former QA team member at Respawn Entertainment — said he was dismissed because AI can now analyze and summarize playtester feedback. He believes that capability was a likely factor behind the layoffs that affected about 100 people at Respawn.
