Following the success of their 2021 ethereal rogue-lite Dreamscaper, Afterburner Studios has partnered with publisher Focus Entertainment to unveil their next endeavor: Elta: Defy All Gods. Premiered during Gamescom Opening Night Live, this sci-fi action-platformer chronicles an unorthodox alliance between an armored monastic warrior and a miniature dragon striving to pull their universe back from the brink of ruin.
The debut footage introduces players to Victis, an augmented warrior-monk on an urgent pilgrimage to resurrect a fallen deity. That divinity is Elta, a celestial dragon stripped of its majestic power and reduced to a pint-sized traveling companion. The atmospheric reveal tracks the duo navigating a frozen subterranean expanse, dispatching frost-clad adversaries with swift execution. Despite his heavy, tech-infused chassis, Victis displays remarkable acrobatic finesse, chaining martial-arts strikes with high-velocity parkour maneuvers, backflips, and vertical wall-runs.
The latter half of the trailer demonstrates authentic gameplay that mirrors its cinematic choreography. Victis utilizes a wrist-mounted tether to grapple across vast chasms and grind along suspended rails. According to Afterburner Studios, combat is designed as a hybrid system that marries kinetic close-quarters combat with destructive sorcery; Elta perches directly on Victis’ shoulder to provide complementary ranged artillery, such as devastating fireballs. Staying true to classic Metroidvania principles, exploration is gated by ability upgrades, challenging adventurers to master new traversal and combat skills to access undiscovered sectors. The entire experience is framed within a distinct visual motif crafted to look like a living oil canvas in motion.
Enthusiasts can get hands-on experience ahead of time when a public demo goes live on October 1. The full release of Elta: Defy All Gods is slated to arrive in early 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
