Disney Developing New Darkwing Duck Series

Disney is reviving Darkwing Duck in a brand-new series for Disney Plus. The announcement arrived on Tuesday, bringing back a character who spent the last 35 years waiting for another chance to fight his enemies.

Drake Mallard returns as the crime-fighting vigilante. Classic villains Negaduck and Megavolt also return for more trouble alongside familiar allies Launchpad, Gosalyn, and Morgana. A whole universe is at stake in the new show.

Disney shared the official synopsis for the series:

For the last 35 years, Darkwing Duck has been trapped in his worst nightmare: an alternate world that’s never heard of his superhero exploits. Now a rebellious teen named Duckie who knows all about his heroic past shows up to pull this ego-fueled vigilante back into battle. Together, this unlikely duo will get dangerous to fight old enemies like Negaduck and Megavolt and reunite with allies Launchpad, Gosalyn and Morgana to save the entire universe.

Mark Hamill stars as Drake Mallard and Darkwing Duck. Seth Rogen voices Launchpad McQuack, Lizzy Caplan voices Gosalyn Mallard, and Lilimar voices Duckie. The voice cast also features Dan Stevens, Tiffany Shepis, Kathryn Newton, Teo Briones, Tyler Dean Flores, Katie Rich, and Nat Faxon.

Tad Stones, the creator of Darkwing Duck, consulted on the new project. “Like every other fan of the original show, I’m excited to see Darkwing getting dangerous again in a whole new series,” said Stones.

Darkwing previously appeared in the 2017 DuckTales reboot before landing this new standalone series. The original Darkwing Duck premiered in 1991 and ran for 91 episodes across Disney Channel, ABC, and syndication. Jim Cummings voiced Darkwing Duck originally, and Chris Diamantopoulos took over the role in 2017. Fans can stream the original series on Disney Plus.

Disney has not announced a release date for the new series.
