Devolver Digital allege self-care app “ripped off” platformer Gris

Like it or not, it’s laborious to argue that Nomada Studio’s debut Gris isn’t an absolute stunner. Alice B discovered it a bit bleedin’ apparent with its themes of female fragility and trauma in her Gris review, however that doesn’t cease it being a fully attractive picturebook platformer. She wasn’t alone, both. This week, publishers Devolver Digital alleged {that a} French studio has “ripped off” Gris when promoting their cell self-care app.

Gris wasn’t the primary game to color dainty flowing orb-children with brilliant pastel palettes (good day Monument Valley, Child of Light, and so forth). But from hand-held composition to nearly frame-perfect animation similarities, Devolver reckon the Fabulous have crossed the road from inspiration to infringement.

After being completely called-out on-line, Fabulous has taken down their offending video. Responding to Devolver’s tweet, they declare that they’ve opened an inside investigation and entered talks with Devolver to kind this mess out.

While that investigation is ongoing, CEO Sami Ben Hassine told Vice that it’s seemingly one in every of their artists or freelancers was “inspired by a game that they liked”. Regardless, Devolver much appreciate Fabulous taking down their video.

Hassine isn’t too glad at Devolver’s underdog angle of taking up the large, thieving model, thoughts. Hassine claims Fabulous is only a small start-up, taking inspiration from games like Journey and Monument Valley to make self-care apps.
