Devil May Cry 5 Becomes Capcom’s Best‑Selling Game in First Half of 2025 After Netflix Series Launch
Capcom reported record results for the first half of fiscal 2025, driven primarily by strong sales of previously released titles.
The standout performer was Devil May Cry 5 — 2.13 million copies sold, the company’s best result for the period. The renewed interest coincided with the release of an anime on Netflix, which brought attention back to the franchise.
Net sales totaled ¥81.1 billion (about $540 million, +44%), and operating profit reached ¥39.3 billion (about $262 million, +90%). Total unit sales were 23.85 million copies (+19.1%), the strongest first-half performance on record. The vast majority came from catalog titles (previously released games): 22.85 million copies (96%). New releases sold 997,000 units (-7.2%). Digital accounted for 94% of sales (22.41 million), with physical making up 6%. PC led the platforms with 13.66 million digital copies (+27.2%).
Devil May Cry 5 outperformed other top sellers: Resident Evil Village — 1.57 million, Resident Evil 4 — 1.27 million, Resident Evil 7 — 1.15 million, and Street Fighter 6 — 1.09 million. Cumulative sales for Devil May Cry 5 have surpassed 10.78 million copies.
Capcom attributes its success to enduring franchises such as Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, and Street Fighter. Its digital-first strategy, producing a margin of 62.9%, demonstrates the profitability of a catalog-driven business model.
The Netflix anime reignited interest in Devil May Cry 5 and attracted a global audience, further stimulating sales.
