Developers State Fable Will Feature Deep Combat System Instead of Copying Old RPGs
The developers of Fable plan to combine the simplicity of classic RPGs with a modern combat system that allows players to freely mix different fighting styles and customize their characters.
Reviving the Albion universe after 16 years has proven to be a major challenge for Playground Games. Associate Game Director Will Kennedy explained in an interview that the team is not blindly copying solutions from past installments in order to avoid alienating new players with outdated mechanics.
Flexibility will form the core of the combat system, allowing players to easily and dynamically combine melee weapon attacks with ranged strikes to adapt to situations and shape their own personal styles.
Significant attention has been dedicated to gear and skill customization. Players will be able to assemble equipment entirely from scratch and utilize four spell slots. Kennedy noted that combat controls will remain intuitive while the system unlocks deep tactical possibilities over time. Playground Games is confident it has struck a successful balance and promises an “unusual experience” from every battle.
