Developers explain why Gothic Remake won’t be released on Nintendo Switch 2

Alkimia Interactive has confirmed that the Gothic Remake will not be released on the Switch 2. The explanation is simple — the console’s hardware does not align with the studio’s ambitions.

In an interview, studio head Reinhard Pollis cleared up any doubts:

“The Switch 2 is a solid console, but I think we need to change our development approach. We’re trying to push the limits of current-generation systems, and, unfortunately, I don’t believe the Switch 2 meets those requirements.”

Although the device offers a noticeable performance uplift compared to its predecessor, the studio’s ambitious concept goes beyond what the hardware can support. Alkimia Interactive intends to deliver a modern yet faithful remake of the original, which demands substantial technical resources.

The Gothic Remake is scheduled to launch in the first quarter of 2025 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
